Following best practices, Harbor House does not offer counseling with the abusive individual. The Salvation Army Medford provides transitional living for those facing homelessness. A secure, off-site facility where custodial parents safely exchange custody of their children and/or children participate in supervised visits with their non-custodial parent.

Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. In case you haven’t already heard, this will be my last post as Executive Director. At the end of June, I will join many of you in the enchanted land of retirement and social security recipient. It has been my pleasure working with our donors who fund our mission and the staff and volunteers who carry it out on a daily basis.

At Contra Costa Harbor House, we provide crisis treatment in a safe, welcoming environment for adults experiencing a mental health emergency. We believe recovery starts from within, and that our job is to do whatever it takes to provide the support needed on your recovery journey. Low-barrier shelters do not require background checks, credit checks, or income verification, previous program participation, sobriety, or ID for access to services. Low-barrier shelters provide services to people experiencing mental or behavioral health challenges and/or substance use disorders – they are the first place that people can go to begin the process of recovering from homelessness.

Maine Needs and Preble Street Announce Partnership to Help More Mainers Meet their Basic Needs

Established in 1990 out of the need for homeless services for women and children, Harbor House serves over 5000 homeless and impoverished individuals and families in Hancock County each year. In addition, Harbor House serves as the Front Door for rental housing assistance in Hancock County. On a daily basis, we are changing people’s lives, restoring families, and providing hope. Since 1996, The Salvation Army’s Harbor House in Medford has helped Jackson County’s homeless get back on their feet.

Contract Attorneys provide legal representation while a full time Paralegal and Legal Advocate provide support and case management services. Men, women and families come to us from the street, from camps and cars and find a hand up to help them get back on their feet. Individual Harbor House Review and group counseling, support groups, and family therapy for adult and child survivors.

Harbor House is a drug and alcohol free transitional living facility that accommodates single men, single women and families. Living facilities include individual rooms and dorms for single men and women. For families, home is one large room when they first come to Harbor House. 24-hour crisis hotline support; onsite safe shelter and offsite hotel placement; basic necessities; crisis intervention and support; and life skills groups.

High-quality professionally run shelters, like Preble Street Harbor House, provide more than just a place to sleep for a night. They provide staff who are trained in trauma-informed care and harm reduction, housing navigation services, case management, healthy and nutritious meals, and more. Shelters also divert the most vulnerable from relying on the most expensive services like hospital emergency rooms, jails, police, emergency response systems, and the child welfare system.

Targeted assistance and case management for adult survivors with Family Court and/or Children’s Division involvement. Assistance in thirteen area courts including order of protection court, as well as lethality assessment programs with nine area municipal police departments. Transitional housing is temporary housing for the working homeless population and is set up to transition their residents to permanent housing. People successfully exiting Harbor House programs who are stably housed 1 year later. The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church.

Harbor House helped me by teaching me about responsibility, budgeting, structure and spending time with my son.” Preble Street is excited to become a bigger part of the Bangor community and will continue to fill in the budget gaps with the private support from community members and other funders that help us keep the doors open.

Harbor House

Onsite or scattered site housing, rent and/or utility subsidies, housing-specific case management, resource referrals, and employment guidance for six to 24 months. Preble Street assumed operations of Harbor House on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from Penobscot Community Health Center (PCHC). In fall 2023, PCHC had announced that due to financial considerations, it would close Harbor House – its low-barrier 56-bed emergency shelter in Bangor – in fall 2024 unless another provider could take over operations. Strengths-based, client centered, and trauma-informed goal setting, resource referrals, and service linkages that emphasize housing, health, and self-sufficiency. The mission of Preble Street is to provide accessible barrier-free services to empower people experiencing problems with homelessness, housing, hunger, and poverty, and to advocate for solutions to these problems. Representation to address the broad range of civil legal issues encountered by survivors such as protection orders, child support, child custody, divorce, paternity, etc.

Preble Street Harbor House is a 56-bed low-barrier shelter

The Salvation Army’s transitional programs move people from the streets to stability to employment and finally to a home. At Harbor House, children find a safe, alcohol and drug free place to call home while their parents get back on their feet. Harbor House provides a safe and clean environment supported by 24-hour, seven-day-a-week case management and supportive services. They complete drug and alcohol treatment, reunite with children, get jobs, pay debt, start saving money and learn valuable life skills to help them become self-sufficient. Partnership with the Independence Police Department to provide crisis intervention services, advocacy, and resource referrals and linkages to survivors contacting the police for assistance. The Co-Responding Advocate also coordinates revisits to survivors’ homes with Independence Police officers to offer additional support and resources.

Domestic violence can happen to anyone, no matter their gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexuality. Harbor House advocates for survivors, no matter where they are in their journey. � Please enable JavaScript to view this page content properly.
